FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The things people ask us most about learning Arabic with books.

Which books do I need to start learning Arabic from scratch?
If you want to study Modern Standard Arabic (fusha), start with a vocalized vocabulary book that includes audio. If your goal is to communicate with Moroccans, start with a Moroccan darija book. At arabooki we have both options and every printed book unlocks free audio in the reader area.
What is the difference between Modern Standard Arabic and Moroccan darija?
Modern Standard Arabic (fusha) is the written and formal language common to all Arab countries — press, literature, religion, official communication. Moroccan darija is the living Arabic that people in Morocco speak day to day — different vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. Ideally you learn both: MSA gives you the written foundation, darija opens the doors of homes.
Can I learn Arabic calligraphy without knowing Arabic?
Yes, absolutely. Arabic calligraphy can be practiced as visual art without understanding what the letters mean. We have calligraphy workbooks designed for absolute beginners: guided strokes, special paper and practice space.
Do the books include pronunciation audio?
Yes. Every arabooki printed book has a code on the flap that gives permanent access to a reader digital area with native pronunciation audio, downloadable PDFs and extra exercises. No extra cost, no subscription.
Are the books suitable for English-speaking beginners?
Yes. Our books are gradually being translated and adapted for English-speaking learners — not mechanically translated, but reworked for clarity. Phonetic transcription uses conventions friendly to English readers, examples assume you are starting from zero, and audio is recorded by native speakers.
Do you have free resources to try before buying?
Yes. We publish free PDF guides on the key aspects of Arabic and darija for beginners. You can also see book samples and listen to sample audio from each book page.
